As you stroll towards the 200-year-old Chorisia tree in the Garden, prepare to be captivated by a stunning display of colourful lights dancing in harmony with immersive music. The tree’s swollen trunk, a distinctive characteristic of this species, acts as a natural canvas where smaller light particles gradually morph into larger, organic patterns. This enchanting transformation highlights the life force of the tree, revealing its inner rhythm and energy flow. The installation fosters a meditative atmosphere, evoking a sense of wonder and reminding us of our deep connection with nature.
This installation marks German artist and photographer Philipp Frank’s debut in China and his first permanent installation worldwide. His artistic journey began in graffiti and has evolved into an interdisciplinary approach to land light art, combining image capturing, illustration, and art direction. By using projection mapping on natural surfaces such as rocks, trees and driftwood, he creates magical lightscapes – like the one you see before you – that seamlessly blend nature and technology.
