Anatomy of Time

Petroc Sesti

Inspired by cosmology and the spiral geometry of galaxies, Anatomy of Time is a translucent, 3-meter-tall kinetic optical sculpture that offers an immersive sensory experience. Its dynamic form reframes its architectural surroundings through distortion and inversion, transforming space through the interplay of light and motion.

At its core flows Qi, the ancient life energy, expressed through fluid, continuous movement, symbolizing the ever-changing and cyclical nature of existence. In perpetual motion, Anatomy of Time becomes a meditation on transience, energy, and the nature of perception an invitation to consider how time itself moves through us.

Invisibly yet profoundly present, time is the silent force shaping our existence. Standing 3 meters tall at the entrance of The Henderson, Anatomy of Time by British artist Petroc Sesti is a translucent kinetic optical sculpture that invites you on a sensory journey where art and architecture seamlessly converge.

Drawing inspiration from cosmology and the spiral geometry of galaxies, its swirling inner vortex captures the delicate tension between gravity and light, stillness and motion. This dynamic form challenges the static nature of the built environment, transforming the lobby into an unfolding visual field. As you move around it, the sculpture playfully inverts the world beneath you, flipping the lobby and your own reflection upside down, creating a captivating interaction between the observer and the space.

As light bends and dances through its fluid and elevated form, the largest liquid kinetic sculpture of its kind comes alive with quiet intensity. It activates the space by subtly shifting the environment, creating an immersive experience. At its core flows Qi, the ancient energy of life, expressed through perpetual motion. This fluidity symbolizes the ever-changing nature of existence, weaving a story that resonates deeply within us.

Anatomy of Time is more than sculpture; it is a living dialogue between art, science, and philosophy, reminding us that culture thrives where creativity transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.
